We took a day trip into Gibraltar just to get the total number of countries over 20! :)
The rock. We actually had to queue for 50 mins to get in. We've been told that the Spanish are so annoyed that it is still British that they've made it difficult to get in but to us it looked more like a lot of people wanted to go there and if cars are only processed single file then it takes a long time. They've actually built a new road to hold the tail back as the queue happens so regularly!
The runway is built on reclaimed land. Lots of people walk into Gibraltar (probably because they understand just how long it takes to get in by car - ha ha) and they are stopped when a plane is taking off or landing - now that's different.
View from the top of the rock.
Every bit of land is in use and there seems to be a big land reclamation work in progress.
The place is very Spanish. When we went for lunch most people around us were speaking Spanish, although the menu was in English and there was English beer on tap.
The monkeys are awful. Very aggressive.
One guy had oranges in his bag. As he got out of the cable car two monkeys rushed him and ripped the bag off his shoulder, breaking the strap. In seconds they had the oranges. How did they know?
What was funnier was his family had told him not to take the food with him and they gave him a big serve - for the rest of us it was just entertaining.
The sun is out, we found a free car parking space, located the cable car and didn't have to queue too long - life is kind :)
View from the cable car on the descent. We should have taken a close up of the top of the upcoming car - it was very rusty!
So we had about 4 hours in Gibraltar before returning to Spain: but we've added another country!!!!
