You can see the 'nest' behind me. The access and view were spectacular but the actual building didn't appear as if was really designed to be lived in. Perhaps it has been 'touristised'?
It was only just after 10 am and this group of tourists were well on their way to being drunk. There were many people waiting to have their photo taken against the Edelweiss cross but these guys just hogged the space, taking endless photos. Each one had their photo taken drinking schnapps. Eventually I just got up there and had the photo. The look in their faces was priceless.
The entrance tunnel and the brass lift (with original phone and clock) inside the rock were amazing.
Innsbruck is very picturesque and the mountain backdrop is spectacular. This building is aptly named the gold roof building.
I met the invisible man. He was very friendly and kissed my hand - so he must be a gentleman and recognise a lady :)
And that was Austria.
Once you got to where you needed to be things were great but there were so many road works. Perhaps they are having a construction led recovery? We spent several unplanned hours in traffic jams, being diverted 10s of KMs out of our way and two towns literally had dug up the complete centre so walking was not fun.
I truly enjoyed the Sound of Music tour and will now read the real story of Maria von Trapp, which is VERY different from the movie.
All the double rooms were just that - two single beds pushed together. Some places made an attempt for them to appear as one bed but many didn't. We thought we were booking the wrong thing - even when we did get just the one bed it had two doonas. No big deal - just a matter of interest. Lots of people in the North still dress in traditional costume and there are plenty of stores that cater for the fashion. People were very friendly.
